Nightmare on My Street

I've been incredibly lazy when it comes to updating the blog, though I swear, there's good reason for it.
...okay, maybe only a little bit of reason.

For starters, I'm taking a semester off because of my anemia and various health issues.
Unfortunately my iron levels aren't going up as fast as they're supposed to, so I have a bunch of tests queued up for this week. I was supposed to already be done with all this insanity earlier this week, but as you may have heard, Connecticut got a freaking BLIZZARD... And I spent that whole time on Blizzard's World of Warcraft, leveling my Worgen Mage.
(He's level 59 now, and seeing that I made him when Cataclysm came out Dec 7th, that's kind of sad.)

I'm also getting some colored clay one of these days... Once again, the snow kind of ruined our trip to get some from the craft store, and the preparation of food and stuff for the onslaught of Christmas guests didn't help any.

FINALLY... I am going to Delaware to visit Jon for New Years, and also our 15th monthiversary!
Yes, we still celebrate months... We love each other too much to take every month together for granted.
(That sounds so incredible corny, I know. It's true though.)

SO. Everything is very hectic right now, and full of insanity!
Thank goodness that blogging isn't my full-time job, or I'd be in some really deep doo-doo right now.
One of these days I'm going to actually be a good blog owner and start updating regularly like I did before...
...and fix this darn layout.

ITS AFESTIVUS MIRCALE!

FINALLY!
After 3 months the damn school got the cable techs to fix the cable jack in our dorm room. As I type this the Festivus episode of Seinfeld is on. So I've decided to make a donation for everyone that reads this to the Human Fund!

Its the Holiday Season again. Such a joyous time of year, where we all want to receive more than we give(Don't deny it you greedy bastards). I hope everyone has a Merry Fucking Christmas, or Hanukkah, or Kwanzaa or whatever it is you celebrate(even if its Festivus!) I'm tolerant of everything so have yourself a happy holiday season.

I'd like to give a shoutout to the radio station 93.3 WMMR of Philadelphia. Preston and Steve, the hosts of the morning show held a Camp-out for Hunger to raise food and money for the homeless in the Tri-state area. Over the five day camp-out they raised 527,285 Lbs or 263 Tons (for perspective, roughly 263 elephants) of food! That is heavier than the Statue of Liberty! But just because their camp-out is over doesn't mean the food stops. Try to make some kind of donation if you can to your local food shelter or charity. According to national statistics the poverty rate has climbed over the past year. That means more hungry, homeless people out there in the cold.

The purpose of this entry is to wish everyone a happy holiday season, and to remind everyone that this time of year is tough for the less fortunate. I believe in karma, so give a little good and you'll get some in return. Happy Holidays everyone. Stay warm.

When We Leave

Watching this video reminded me a lot of Fallout and Chernobyl. When humans build a settlement, what will happen if we suddenly vanish? What effect will it have? This video features an abandoned Six Flags amusement park in New Orleans. The park closed down in 2005 for Hurricane Katrina, and never reopened. The video has a sort of eeriness in it that I find fascinating, comforting, and creepy all at the same time. It makes me wonder what the world wold be like if we were to leave it, or if some cataclysmic event happened that forced us to live underground or in remote locations or protective environment domes.

Inedible Food! WOOHOO!

Yes, I finally got off my butt and relisted all of my expired items on Etsy!
That isn't just all, however...
I also reorganized the shop by putting them into relevant categories, AND added new items that have been sitting in my dorm since the end of August!
(I really am that lazy...)

Here are just a few photos of what you can find there!

Check all of them out HERE!

Maddie is a lazybutt and needs to stop procrastinating on updating/renovating her blog, doing her homework, making up her incompletes in classes from LAST YEAR, relisting things on Etsy, and everything else.

Colonoscopy Time!

This summer I had a colonoscopy, and let me tell you... it's really not as bad as it seems. The procedure itself is easy, you're put under and then you groggily wake up to a nurse urging apple juice and an English muffin on you.
The preparation on the other hand is a pain in the... well, yeah, you get the point.
Basically you drink nothing but 64oz of Gatorade mixed with laxative the day before. It really wouldn't be half as bad if the laxative didn't make the Gatorade taste like salt water. I will NEVER be able to drink Gatorade again...
But anyway, my mom decided to immortalize my plight via my phone's camera.

My "really Mom?" face.

I closed my eyes when she was inserting the IV... trust me, it hurts a lot more when you see what's being done to you.

IV in place... in my arm... Creepy stuff.

I'm sleepy from not eating for the past 24+ hours, and not drinking for the past 6 hours...

Coming out of the anesthesia-induced unconsciousness...  sippin' my apple juice.

All in all, it was an... interesting experience?
It was my first time going under anesthesia, and seriously, it is impossible to stay awake. I just remember having the anesthesia pumped into my IV, looking around, and then WHAM, I wake up in a different room.
The nurses were all very friendly, and they thought I was a riot. I guess they're used to having old grumpy patients with no sense of humor.
They even took a photo of me with the ass camera, and printed it out for me to keep, just for giggles.

The diagnosis was good as far as diagnoses go. I don't have Crohn's Disease, but rather my intestines suffered some sort of infection and was on the mend. (The intestinal pain that made me seek medical attention in the first place was attributed to the infection.) I was told to have more fiber and probiotics, and to take some Pepto Bismol every once in a while to quell the inflammation. All of this would help my intestines out with the healing process.

So yeah, that's my colonoscopy story, haha!

Allie the Lump

Our dog, Allie, always lies down flat when she's exhausted or feeling hot to cool down.
She kind of looks just like a lump, lying there in everyone's way. :P

Bebe the Kitty

My uncles' cat Bebe rarely emerges from her hiding spot under the bed, but when she does, she's a sweetheart. She's a rescue cat, so she's very distrustful of people invading her home. If you're alone in the room and lure her with a string to play with, she'll come out and act just like a regular cat.
I took these photos last time I visited them in Rhode Island.

Isn't she a sweetie?

Car Wreck

About half a year ago, we were driving to Rhode Island when suddenly we got caught up in traffic. After a while we finally discovered the cause... Everyone was rubber-necking to see a car wreck on the other side of the median.
Well, what else could we do but rubber-neck as well?

I opened the window to take these photos with my cellphone, and you could feel the intense heat even from across the median. The bumper was literally dripping molten plastic or metal... obviously I couldn't tell which, but it looked like liquid fire.
Crazy stuff!

To my knowledge, nobody was hurt. I checked reports of accidents later and there was nothing about any fatalities.

WE ARE BACK!

I finally have gotten off my lazy butt and am queuing up a series of posts for the next week or so!

I'll begin by saying that the layout changes WILL BE COMING SOON.
I'm going to start working on them possibly next week or so, because the current layout is really starting to bother me. There is way too much empty space and the colors are getting boring.

Also, I made another sale! Thank you so much to Etsy user CharmedAmour for trusting me and my no-feedback status on Etsy!
It's always so hard to make the first few sales, so I very much appreciate the help in getting me out of "no sales, no feedback, newbie" status.
CharmedAmour also has a beautiful Etsy shop full of curious and interesting necklaces! Visit her shop by clicking HERE!

Anyway, keep an eye out for new updates starting tomorrow!

The Return of Hello Interloper

Well, guess whaaaat?
My computer is back, fully repaired and as good as new!
Updates will follow shortly, most likely in mid-October.

Stay tuned!

In the meantime, check out the Movie Blog of one of my old high-school classmates! :]

OH NOES!

Maddie's computer sort of...died. The glue that held the frame together cracked and fell apart, which resulted in the screen cracking and breaking in multiple places, and detaching from keyboard; only the wires held it together. But she's sending it off to be fixed. She's still running her etsy shop(and making new things!) Be a little patient and stay tuned! She'll be back soon. Take care everybody and have a good day.

Tuesday, September 7, 2010

OH MY! What is to become of Hello Interloper?

It doesn't take a genius to notice that there has been a significant gap between my last post and this one.
I assure you, there is a reason why.

Wear Your Food!

There are new items in the Etsy Shop!
This batch has more delicious and adorable earrings based off of fruits.

Lemon or Lime? Why not both?

Red or White Wine? Or Red or White Grapes? Again, why not both?

More of a symmetrical kind of person? How about some strawberries?

Okay, so the bunny isn't food exactly, but the carrot sure is!

Okay, okay, this isn't food at all.

I have never tried to eat a Poporing, but I'm quite sure they aren't edible either...

Ever had Pocky? If not, you haven't lived.

That's all for now!
A new batch of items are currently in queue to be fired up in the oven, so keep your eyes opened!

ANNOUNCEMENT: New Layout Coming Soon!

Due to Hello Interloper becoming larger, and with the addition of the Etsy shop, it's about time that the blog gets a makeover!
Within the next month or so I will begin to remodel the layout of the blog.
Don't worry, no content will be deleted!

I'll be aiming to accomplish a few things:
- Create a header instead of using plain text
- Make the page wider to better accommodate the rising number of visitors with widescreen monitors
- Make the Etsy Shop link more prominent
- Make the Etsy Shop page showcase the most recent additions
- Create a new color scheme
- Have less clutter on the sidebar
- Make the ads less obtrusive (I know they're annoying and it would be better to have them gone completely, but remember, I don't have an actual job!)

Keep your eyes peeled for new changes and improvements!

My Last.FM Page! + CopyTrans Review

Thanks to a handy program called CopyTrans, I finally was able to upload all of my playcounts from my old iPod onto last.fm!
You can now see my full list of songs I've loved and listened to over the past 4 or 5 years.
Feel free to add me as a friend!
Click here for my last.fm account page!

Please keep in mind that the playcounts do not always reflect my current taste in music!
These are songs I've listened to over the past 4-5 years, meaning from when I was 15-20.
That means that about 3 of those years were from when I was extremely depressed... eep!

Brings Back Memories... and Ranting

As a young kid, I was absolutely obsessed with Sonic the Hedgehog.
Seeing this video sure brought back memories, back when I used to beg to use my uncle's SEGA console to play Sonic 3... even if I was really just mashing buttons and dying constantly.

YouTube - Sega's Office Pranks - Aaron's Desk

Honestly though, these SEGA workers seem to love the oldschool stuff.
How about they take that enthusiasm and bring Sonic back to his former glory, rather than continue to put him in games that only a child could possibly appreciate?

The success that Sonic the Hedgehog reached in the 90's was due to the fact that the games were enjoyable by any age group.
Now that technology has moved forward, Sonic's target age group has moved backwards, so to speak, in the constrained direction of a younger target audience.

Just take a look at the E3 trailer for SEGA's newest Sonic title...
Sonic now fuses together with strange colored creatures reminiscent of Pokemon's "Rotom" character to gain power-ups.

I'm all for adding new features and gameplay to old series, but really?
Adding a whole new "species" of characters to an already cluttered cast is not the way to go, especially when they are placed at the center of the game's mechanics.

Sonic Adventure's "Chao" characters were a prime example of what DID work in the series. The addition of the Chao were intuitive, and generally unobtrusive.
Though they played a part in the plotline, they were seen in cutscenes and didn't factor into gameplay.
For those who wanted something extra to do while playing the game, the Chao were an interactive side show, a cross between a mini-game and pet simulator.
The fact that taking care of the Chao was a non-essential part of both Sonic Adventure games meant it could be ignored by those who saw it as a nuisance, though personally I embraced it.
The Chao were fun and time consuming, adding countless hours of extra play time, and ultimately game value.

Sonic Adventure and its sequel, Sonic Adventure 2, both proved that Sonic definitely could work in a 3D setting.

However, after seeing SEGA add magical storybooks, swords, "were-hog" transformations, and now superpowers based on color, that little blue hedgehog has become the center of a mess of random, yet unoriginal plotlines.
I think it's time to let Sonic walk, or should I say run, off into the sunset, and leave him with what little dignity he has left.

Blast from the Past #3

I was sorting through my old files, and I came upon my Creative Writing folder from my junior year of high school.
That's... hmm, about 4 years back or so.
Jeez, I feel old.

Anyway, here's a short story called "Chatter."
It's about two crow brothers and an incident...

Always Guilty

I awoke this morning at 4am to keep my promise that I would finish an essay before I left for Delaware.
I am guilty, always guilty when it comes to my schoolwork.
In class, I function great. I am a relentless note taker, I excel on tests and quizzes, I participate often, and almost always find myself in friendly conversations with my teachers.
Anybody who saw me in class would think I'm an amazing student, even maybe a teacher's pet because of my enthusiasm and comfort level around adults.
Outside of class, I am a wreck.
I procrastinate away every last minute I have for my assignments, and when the due date approaches, I sit frustrated and upset, paralyzed with guilt.
I end up not completing a course because of one or two essays or assignments, take an Incomplete, and grapple with my dysfunctional inability to get work done across the span of a whole vacation.
Most likely than not, I end up waiting until the last minute once again, and the process repeats itself, this time with me finally completing the work after an excruciating amount of effort and pain.

Though stumped at first, my psychiatrist told me I basically have a handicap.
Being used to excelling at academics to an incredible degree up until the beginning of high school made me practically obsessive-compulsive about my quality of work...
I either hand in the best example of work possible, or I hand in nothing at all.
My constant failures and depression in high school created such a fear of failure that I become "paralyzed" and unable to work under stressful situations, like incoming due dates.
I have a lot of trouble focusing on things I don't like or that bore me, which resulted in a diagnosis of ADHD, inattentive type. It basically means that things that bore me can't hold my attention, even if I know it's important. (I also have a cluttered room, yet know where everything is.)

All of that stuff combined creates a recipe for disaster whenever an out-of-class project is assigned.

I live with such guilt and frustration over this.
Years of struggling to make things easier hasn't worked.
Psychotherapy, organizational skills, counseling, medication, you name it.
Sometimes you just can't change the way a brain works...
...and I hate it.

So every school year, I end up getting a high GPA, which people marvel at and congratulate me on.
I smile and thank them, but once I'm alone, I cringe at the pain and suffering I have to go through just to even complete a class in the first place.
And I'm always guilty.

Blast from the Past! New Post Series

Bringing a new series of posts to the blog... BLAST FROM THE PAST!
Basically, I will be uploading old blog and journal posts that I wrote years ago.
Okay, okay, so I know I should be writing some new content, but since all of my old posts are going to waste right now, I thought I'd start reposting.
Some of my old writing is brilliant, some of it is kind of sad, and all of it reflects my views from my teenage years.

I'll be posting some within the next few days!

Animal Research: A Necessary Evil

Don't get me wrong.
I absolutely adore animals.
Fur products creep me out.
Puppy mills are terrible.
Animal abuse is awful.

BUT I am realistic... Animals will never get full rights.

Help Missing Persons

As a Criminal Justice major and an avid reader of crime news and reports, it's obvious that there are flaws in the system when it comes to finding missing persons.
A group of people are trying to have a law passed named "Billy's Law," which would result in a centralized database being created for public viewing.
This database would essentially allow for millions of people to search and view the photos and information of missing persons, leading to more positive identifications and possibly solving cases that have gone unsolved for years.

For more info and a printable letter that you can send to your Senators, please visit the link below.
They need all the help they can get.

We also have necklaces made by my young-at-heart mother, Hanna!

I currently have eight more charms in the works, and my mom just discovered a massive stash of beads that she forgot she even had.

It was a baby bird.

Temporarily Inactive!

Sorry for the unannounced hiatus!
Jon came to visit for a week so we were preoccupied with watching LOST, playing video games, making mac and cheese at 3am, escaping from bimbo-infested ice cream parlors, and all the other ridiculous things we do.
I've also become obsessively and hopefully addicted to Fallout 3.
(Once again, I have Jon to thank for that!)

In the next few days I need to sort some things out on eBay, get my sleep schedule back on track, and excitedly cheer on my favorite countries in the World Cup...
...so yeah, don't expect any detailed updates just yet.

I assure you that things will be back to normal soon!

After dealing with getting banned on Facebook, getting my WoW account hacked, and ALMOST getting my FFXI account hacked (I was online at the time when they tried to log in, so I was able to immediately change my password), I happened to get this in an email...

Jon is coming to CT!

Just a quick post to say that tomorrow at 11:48am, we'll be picking Jon up from the train station!
I'm so excited!
We haven't seen each other since college ended, which is the longest we've ever been apart.
Over the next week posts may be sparse, but I'll try to keep updated as much as possible!

I've got a bid!

Somebody bid on my Art Commission! I'm so excited.
Even though I'll only make a dollar, it's a start.
This is my first paid art commission ever, and hopefully this will help me get a good reputation, possibly leading to larger sums of money paid.
Doing a five dollar commission someday would be amazing.

I know what you may be thinking...
You can find a dollar on the street, is it really worth drawing something for such a small amount of money?
Well yes, it is.
It's not even all about the money.
Knowing that somebody is willing to pay for your art is extremely rewarding.
It helps boost my self-esteem, and motivates me to work harder!

Here's to hoping for a bright commission-filled summer!

The End of An Era

Last night was the LOST finale. I can't believe the series is over. LOST is a story worth passing down if there was ever a dark age brought on by a nuclear holocaust. This show is one of the greatest shows in the history of television. I'm thinking about buying the whole series on Blu-Ray... it'll be worth it. Without spoiling anything, I will say that I liked the whole finale, and how the show ended. Watching the Jimmy Kimmel show after was really interesting and cool too.

Tonight is the finale of 24, another show I like. I've seen every season, and I have all but season 7 on DVD. I must say that this past season has been good, or at least its been picking up momentum again.

Now there will be even less of a reason for me to watch tv. To LOST and 24, I'll miss you both.

VICTORY!!!

Yes, VICTORY AT LAST!

Facebook has officially restored my account!
(Without warning too... I was going to log in so I could get access to the contact info for banned account complaints, and suddenly I COULD LOG IN!)
I guess they investigated why I was banned and saw that there was no real reason behind it.

Hopefully the moron who banned me recieved a "ban" from his job as well.

Cheers!

Freedom of Speech? Yeah, right.

As you may have heard, there is a group on Facebook that has grabbed national attention recently...
This group, called "Everybody Draw Mohammed Day!" prompted Pakistan to ban Facebook until May 31st, and has created a storm of hate in the Islamic world.
What they don't realize is that they are only enforcing the whole point of the group... to show that death threats against cartoonists is simply ridiculous, and free speech is everybody's right.
Sadly, Facebook doesn't seem to agree with some people's free speech...
This includes mine.
Yes, I have been BANNED FROM FACEBOOK.
And all because I posted THIS:...

Well THAT'S Not Creepy at ALL...

Jon was playing Oblivion last week, and I just happened to look up from my laptop...

Hooray for eBay!

Ugh! I've been staying up way too late, as evidenced by my past few entries...
The problem is, now when I actually try to go to sleep early, I can't sleep!
I just tried to fall asleep and failed miserably... So, here is an entry.

As you know, it's summer time, and I need to make some money.

It Summer Again

It is a strange feeling to be experiencing summer in another house. This whole year has been chaotic for me. I live in South Jersey all my life, then after high school and summer, I moved into my college dorm at UNH, which is a new frightening/exciting/amazing experience on its own, but during that time my folks moved to Delaware. Now that school is over, a part of me is expecting to go back to Jersey, but I can't. I'm living in Delware now, and I'm realizing how hard it is to move from a place where I've lived my whole life, into a new environment in which I'm almost literally stranded and away from all my friends and civilization. I knew that moving wouldn't be easy, but now its starting to look like more than I can chew. To sum it up, the transition from high school life-in-NJ to college life-in-DE makes me feel like I was thrown out in the world and now I don't have an anchor. Despite all this bad, there is still good.

Messing With Pokemon

To prevent inappropriate chatter on the Pokemon DS games, Nintendo implemented a "safe chat" method in which you fill in blanks in a sentence with pre-chosen words. Even this method doesn't make everything safe for kiddies though...

College Snacking

Without Mom moderating what I eat, I end up consuming some pretty ridiculous stuff.

Part 2

Well, Maddie's Birthday came and went. Sorry I'm posting later than what I said, a lot has been happening. For Maddie's birthday I gave a her a picture of the two us that was taken the day after I asked her out(there is a secret message on the back of the photo) And the moment that you've all been waiting for...

I made Maddie her very own Mr. Bubbles doll! To me, this looks like crap and could have been better, but she loves it, and that's all the matters.

Herp Derp

Yeah, I don't know what the point of this is either.

I was trying to explain to Jon that Squidward's color is more of a green than a blue, so I showed him how on MS Paint, his color falls closer to green than aqua on the color spectrum.
And then, I got bored.

What Do All The Cool Kids Do On A Friday Night? Pt1

They work on a secret project in the basement for their girlfriend's birthday, while watching Lord of the Rings because there is nothing else on.

Seriously, right now I'm taking a quick break from my secret project, and right now Elrond is telling Gandalf to get the hell out of Rivendel. But about this secret project.... The idea came to me a few weeks ago, its one of those ideas in which you immediately know that it is perfect. Now I can't give any details on this, at least not yet. In a week I'll add a second part and tell the world how my last few weeks have been trying to put this thing together. I will say that when I thought of this idea, I checked the internet for...constructive criticism. As it turns out, many others had the same idea as me, and have already completed secret projects of their own. If you're reading this, and start speculating on what my project is, don't get your hopes up for the big reveal next week, you might be disappointed. I'm not building a rocket car or a pair of undershorts that turns your farts into a hot air balloon. This project has meaning behind it, and I'm hoping Maddie will get the full impact of it. If not, well then its the though that counts right? This whole point of this entry is to tease her. She'll NEVER guess what it is.

'Til next week.

Blogger is being a butt...

For some reason, all user-uploaded photos and images on Blogger are not loading.
Unfortunately this means that the next Sketch Dump will have to be delayed until further notice.
Let's all hope that this is only going to be a temporary problem!

I'm sorry!

I just want to start by saying that I am SO INCREDIBLY SORRY for the unexpected haitus I have taken. I assure you though, this is only temporary.

Just to let everyone know, the power went out in Maddie's town and she is unable to charge/power/use her computer. This is why she's been absent from her blog for a few days. The town is working on repairing the power.

Jon joins h e l l o . i n t e r l o p e r!

Back at UNH at last!

After four days at home, I've finally returned to my true "home" at University of New Haven with Mr. Derp!
Yes, my parents have decided to call Jon and me "Mr. and Mrs. Derp"... or more simply, just "The Derps." (We say derp often.)

Apology, Grandfather, and McDonald's Sauce

It looks like I've failed my goal of updating this blog daily. I barely did anything yesterday that was even semi-important, so writing a blog entry completely slipped my mind!

First Sketch Dump!

Today has been extremely uneventful. Aside from missing Jon, coping with my constantly upset stomach, and playing way too much Plants vs. Zombies, nothing has really happened.
Oh yeah. It snowed almost 6 inches. It'll all be gone in a few days though, mark my words.

Since I have nothing else to say, I present to you... THE FIRST SKETCH DUMP!

Why am I awake?

I decided to take a nice nap at around 9PM, and somehow managed to wake up at around midnight, unable to fall back asleep. Oh goodie!

Sick and at Home

Well, it looks like the stomach bug was actually just one symptom of a sickness that was brewing inside of me for a while...

Stomach Bug?

I really should have just slept the whole day away. As soon as I popped some breakfast in my mouth this morning, SURPRISE! Stomach ache. I think I might have a stomach bug. Well, I'm not going to let this ruin my day... I have a whole day off!

Mondays... I hate Mondays!

Another Monday, another headache... literally. For some reason today, I'm completely drained of energy. Taking a nap helped temporarily, but soon a stomach ache replaced my tiredness headache... lovely.
So, it's 11:26 PM, and I'm fighting off sleep in order to update this blog.

Jon's Birthday

Well, February 20th has finally arrived! It's my boyfriend's birthday, and as I type this we are in my family's car heading to New York City. Yes, incredibly all five of us have somehow managed to achieve the feat of peacefully fitting in a car together...
