I've been Haircutted!

Blogger finally has fixed their photo upload server, so now I can finally post the results of my haircut adventure!

Cutting your own hair is no easy task.
Thankfully, I've been doing it for about four years now, so I've gotten used to it for the most part.

Why cut my own hair?
Simple...
Hair salons and stylists cannot be trusted!

Before I started cutting my own hair, I had many "incidents" with hair stylists.
Every time I would request a certain length, they would cut it even shorter.
It sure didn't help that they tried to cover up their mistakes with compliments, like "You look so much more mature now! Your hair is almost like your mother's!"
For the record, my mom wears her hair very short. She can definitely pull it off though...
When you're a middleschooler, having short hair is... well, not so flattering.

The incident that finally pushed me over the edge marked the end of my dependency on hair salons for hair cuts.
I was maybe 14 or 15, but either way, I went to a salon that my sister had recently recieved a good haircut from.
The woman there obviously was still stuck in her teenage years despite the fact she was in her 20's.
She decided to play with my hair how she deemed fit, and to my horror, took a curling brush and puffed out my bangs.
Needless to say, I looked like a 5 year old with puffy bangs, when in reality I was in my mid-teens, going through my rebellious punk/emo/whatever-you-call-it stage of my life.
I spoke up and asked her to straighten out my bangs, and her response to my request?
"Aww, but you look so cute this way!"

I couldn't believe what I was hearing.
Here I was, a teenager, being treated like a toddler!
I relaxed as she straightened my bangs back out, and kind of zoned out for a bit.
All of a sudden she pulled the curling brush back out, and RE-POOFED MY BANGS.
She then stated that she was done, and in dismay, I asked if she could straighten out my bangs again.
Her answer?
No, because her next clients were already waiting!

I ended up leaving the salon embarassed, and feeling like a little kid who had just been dressed up by their parents in a ridiculous outfit.
Thank goodness the walk to the car was short...

My mom was pissed off about the haircut as well, seeing that she paid for it, and all...
Needless to say, we never went back to that salon again.

Over the next few years I gave myself my own haircuts, experimenting with different lengths and styles.

September 2007 - Shoulder-length haircut with sideswept bangs.

March 2008 - Probably the shortest I've ever had my hair as a teenager. This style was a ton of fun because no matter how much I shook my hair around, it'd always settle back in the same position!

July 2009 - Gave myself a nice and short haircut in preparation for Warped Tour 2009! (Headbanging hair, as I call it, hehe!)
March 2010! - My current haircut! Although you can't see it in this picture, my hair in the back flips out, and I have sideswept bangs. The hair in the front stays straight for the most part without the use of a flat-iron.

Over the next few months my hair will get longer, and though I doubt it will need touch-ups, I might need to re-thin my hair with thinning scissors to prevent poofing.
I won't need another haircut until Warped Tour 2010, I hope!

That's all for now...
Until next time!

  1. Thanks so much for commenting! I've never had a bad haircut. Unless you count the one my dad gave me when I was five. My mother was furious. But you are really talented! I wish I trusted myself to cut my own hair. I love that last pic. Your hair is adorable!
